Course Objectives

This course aims to:

• Gain confidence and improve subject knowledge for teaching science in Y1 and Y2
• Obtain guidance on how to plan an engaging curriculum which supports progression and deepens understanding of key learning
• Identify and address misconceptions in KS1 concepts
• Examine the development of ‘Working Scientifically’ skills alongside the teaching of knowledge
• Explore opportunities to develop outdoor learning throughout the year

This practical course will examine the various aspects of the NC2014 for science in Years 1 and 2. Teachers will explore ways to integrate the skills for ‘Working Scientifically' to support the embedding of the essential scientific 'core knowledge'. Engaging, practical ideas and purposeful contexts for all areas of the KS1 curriculum as well as support for using the outdoor classroom throughout the year will also be incorporated in to the day.
