Course Objectives

This course will cover:
• To develop an understanding of the role of formative assessment in judging the quality of learning and teaching in the classroom
• To understand how to balance formative and summative assessment and the importance of both in building a picture of student understanding
• To link the explicit use of formative assessment strategies with best curriculum practice including the use of milestone assessment
• To allow delegates time to plan next actions once back in school and within their own context

This course is intended for subject leaders and responsibility holding teachers who are responsible for developing and improving whole department learning and teaching. Teachers who have identified assessment as an area for improvement would also clearly benefit from the course.
